Job Purpose
The World Food Programme (WFP) in Guatemala is seeking a Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer to support its mission of achieving Zero Hunger and improving nutrition. This role is crucial in addressing high rates of chronic malnutrition and anemia, particularly in vulnerable populations affected by climate change. The officer will work within integrated health and nutrition brigades to conduct nutritional screenings, provide immediate treatment, strengthen health worker capacities, and ensure proper case referral. The objective is to save lives, prevent malnutrition, and support the recovery of nutritional status in crisis-affected communities.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the WFP Guatemala Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Program Associate, the Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer will:
- Participate in training on activity objectives, key messages (healthy eating, hygiene, family co-responsibility), and playful methodologies.
- Register participants according to WFP guidelines.
- Assist in setting up, organizing, and managing participant flow during activities.
- Ensure a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment.
- Facilitate community fair stations or challenges, clearly explaining activities.
- Convey key messages on healthy eating habits, hygiene practices (handwashing, fruit/vegetable washing), and family co-responsibility in nutrition and health.
- Address basic family queries or refer complex cases to technical staff.
- Participate in feedback sessions with the organizing team.
- Prepare reports detailing activities conducted, participant numbers, and outcomes.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, but 1 month of relevant experience is desirable. Mandatory experience includes working in community or rural settings. Desirable experience includes nutrition training, preferably as a community nutrition counselor within WFP or similar organizations. Basic reading and writing skills are necessary.
