Job Purpose
The World Food Programme (WFP) in Guatemala is seeking a Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer to support its mission of ending hunger and improving nutrition by 2030. This role will focus on community-level interventions to address chronic malnutrition and anemia, particularly in areas affected by climate change. The officer will facilitate community fairs, deliver key messages on healthy eating, hygiene, and family responsibility, and support the overall organization and execution of activities. The aim is to contribute to saving lives and building resilient households and communities by providing essential information and support, ultimately reducing morbidity and mortality in vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the WFP Guatemala Social and Behavior Change Program Associate, the Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer will participate in training on activity objectives, key messages, and playful methodologies. Responsibilities include registering participants, assisting with the setup and flow of activities, and ensuring a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment. The officer will facilitate community fair stations, clearly explaining activities and conveying key messages on healthy eating, hygiene practices, and family responsibility in nutrition and health. They will address basic family queries or refer complex issues to technical staff, participate in feedback sessions, and prepare reports detailing activities, participant numbers, and outcomes.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, but one month of relevant experience in community or rural settings is desirable. Experience in nutrition training, particularly as a community nutrition counselor with organizations like WFP, is also preferred. Candidates must reside in San Jacinto, Chiquimula, to be considered.
Skills
Key competencies include adaptability, flexibility, effective communication, planning, organization, inclusion, respect, self-management, and group management/conflict resolution. Technical skills include the ability to facilitate participatory sessions, basic reading and writing, and strong oral and written communication. Cultural and social sensitivity, proactivity, dynamism, and creativity are also essential.
