Job Purpose

The World Food Programme (WFP) in Guatemala is seeking a Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer to support its mission of ending hunger and improving nutrition. This role is vital in addressing the high rates of chronic malnutrition and anemia in the country, which are worsened by climate change impacts. The officer will work with communities, particularly in vulnerable areas, to implement health and nutrition initiatives. This includes conducting nutritional screenings, providing immediate treatment, strengthening local health capacities, and ensuring proper case referrals. The position directly contributes to reducing morbidity and mortality in crisis contexts and supporting the recovery of nutritional status among the most vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the WFP Guatemala Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Programme Associate, the Community Facilitation and Counseling Officer will undertake the following tasks: Participate in training on activity objectives, key messages (healthy eating, hygiene, family co-responsibility), and playful methodologies. Register participants according to WFP guidelines. Assist in setting up, organizing, and managing participant flow during activities. Ensure a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment. Facilitate community fair stations or challenges, clearly and engagingly explaining activities. Convey key messages on healthy eating habits, proper hygiene practices (handwashing, food washing), and family co-responsibility in nutrition and health. Address basic family queries or refer them to technical staff when necessary. Participate in feedback sessions with the organizing team. Prepare reports detailing activities conducted, participant numbers, and outcomes.

Work Experience

No prior experience is required, but one month of experience in community or rural settings is relevant. Desirable experience includes nutrition training, preferably as a community nutrition counselor within WFP or similar organizations. Basic reading and writing skills are necessary. Candidates must reside in the Municipality of Olopa, Chiquimula Department.
