Job Purpose
This role supports the Action for Climate and Environment (ACE) Unit within UNDP India, focusing on disaster risk reduction and climate resilience. The Project Associate will provide technical assistance to cities like Ghaziabad and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), which have been recognized for innovative urban solutions. The assignment involves supporting the development and implementation of projects related to the XV Finance Commission recommendations and the Bloomberg Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge. The incumbent will contribute to enhancing urban resilience, integrating climate-smart solutions, and ensuring equitable development outcomes, particularly for vulnerable communities, aligning with India's national development priorities and the SDGs.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate will support day-to-day program development and implementation, including assisting with RFPs/RFQs, developing city-specific activities, evaluating bids, and providing technical inputs for structural safety audits and screenings. They will support monitoring and evaluation efforts, ensuring timely reporting and the proper documentation of environmental and social management plans. The role involves contributing to knowledge management by drafting reports, policy briefs, and case studies, and documenting best practices in disaster resilience. Additionally, the associate will facilitate socially inclusive programming by integrating considerations for marginalized groups and developing inclusion-sensitive indicators. Research and analytical support on DRR and resilience themes, including literature reviews and data synthesis, will be provided. Coordination and field-based monitoring activities, including planning site visits and contributing to field reports, are also key responsibilities. Other duties include assisting with data collection, organizing meetings, and facilitating information flow among stakeholders.
Work Experience
A minimum of one month of experience is required, with a preference for two years in building design, structural safety, disaster risk reduction projects, or related areas. The role requires strong analytical and report-writing skills, excellent coordination and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with database management are essential.
