Organizational Context
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the UN's leading agency for sexual and reproductive health, aiming to create a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Operating in Guinea for decades, UNFPA's strategic plan (2022-2025) focuses on ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet family planning needs, and gender-based violence. The current country program (2024-2028) aligns with national priorities and UN development frameworks, contributing to transformative results in sexual and reproductive health services, including emergency obstetric and neonatal care, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and the prevention of harmful practices.
Job Purpose
This UNV assignment supports UNFPA Guinea's project focused on enhancing access to maternal and neonatal health services and combating gender-based violence (GBV) through the digitalization of healthcare systems in a humanitarian context, marked by recurrent floods and ongoing epidemics. The role involves contributing to the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities, ensuring quality assurance and timely delivery. The volunteer will support technical and financial monitoring, data analysis, and reporting, collaborating with national and international partners. Key contributions include facilitating knowledge management, communication, and capacity-building initiatives to ensure project visibility and the effective dissemination of results, ultimately strengthening integrated health services and GBV prevention and response mechanisms.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer Project Associate will support the UNFPA Country Representative and the designated Project Coordinator. Key responsibilities include:
Planning and Implementation: Assist in developing quarterly work plans and implementing project interventions, ensuring quality control and monitoring of activities.
Technical and Financial Monitoring: Contribute to the project's monitoring and evaluation plan, analyze technical and financial data, and support the preparation of progress reports. Participate in project review meetings to document best practices and lessons learned.
Coordination and Communication: Facilitate information exchange among stakeholders, contribute to knowledge management systems, and support communication activities to ensure project visibility, particularly regarding Japanese government support. Translate communication materials into Japanese and liaise with the Japanese Embassy on project progress and future collaborations.
Partner Support: Provide direct technical support to the project team and UNFPA partners for effective implementation and achievement of expected results. Assist during field visits and perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Minimum of 1 month of professional experience, with a preference for at least 2 years of national or international experience in humanitarian project management, monitoring and evaluation, or relevant program areas. Experience in a humanitarian context or with the UN is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong reporting and interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team are required.
