The WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) serves 53 Member States, acting as the UN's public health authority for the region. It focuses on strengthening health systems, disease prevention, and health promotion, with key areas including public health emergencies, child and adolescent health, and climate change. The A-Net community of practice aims to enhance resilience and protection in health emergencies by fostering a collaborative space for practitioners and partners to share experiences and solutions.
Job Purpose
This role supports the A-Net community of practice, which aims to strengthen community resilience and protection in health emergencies. The purpose is to create a shared space for practitioners, community actors, and partners to exchange experiences, lessons learned, and practical solutions. The volunteer will contribute to collective learning on preparedness, risk communication, community engagement, and protection of vulnerable groups. By facilitating a transition from ad-hoc interactions to a more open and sustained community, the role seeks to improve continuity, peer support, and the adoption of community-driven approaches, ultimately enhancing trust, inclusion, and effective response at local and national levels.
Responsibilities
The online volunteer will provide support for the June session, including drafting meeting agendas and welcome remarks, and taking concise meeting minutes. Key responsibilities involve capturing key points, decisions, and next steps. The volunteer will also contribute to transitioning the community of practice from closed, invitation-based meetings to a more open and sustainable model, suggesting formats, engagement ideas, and simple governance approaches. Following the meeting, the volunteer will share ideas to strengthen future community collaboration. This role requires strong writing and organizational skills, with an interest in community building in international or public-interest settings.
Work Experience
Required experience includes strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly summarize discussions and draft concise texts. Demonstrated ability to work independently, proactively, and with attention to detail is essential. Experience or interest in community engagement, public health, humanitarian, or development contexts is desirable. Experience with meeting support, note-taking, coordination, or community facilitation is an asset.
Skills
Essential skills include strong written and verbal communication in English, with the ability to summarize discussions and adapt tone for diverse audiences. The role requires independence, proactivity, motivation, reliability, and attention to detail. An interest in community engagement, public health, humanitarian, or development contexts is important. Experience with meeting support, coordination, or facilitation is beneficial. Comfort working in a remote, international, and collaborative environment is also key.
