Organizational Context
The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Azerbaijan supports the UN Resident Coordinator's leadership of the UN Country Team. The RCO facilitates strategic planning, partnerships, data management, and communications to align the UN's response with national development priorities. Job Purpose
This role supports the UN Resident Coordination Office in Baku, Azerbaijan, by monitoring daily news, blogs, and articles from open sources related to the country. The Online Volunteer will produce analytical reports covering geopolitical and socio-economic information. The primary goal is to contribute to the RCO and UNCT Azerbaijan's operational effectiveness by providing timely and relevant information. This involves daily reporting, analysis of media trends, and identifying key developments to inform strategic decision-making and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
Collect, collate, and verify country-related information from open-source media, including news, blogs, and articles. Produce comprehensive daily media monitoring reports, submitted each weekday morning, analyzing results and identifying relevant information. Analyze media reports covering news from or about Azerbaijan, producing a daily report coordinated with the supervisor. Participate in weekly online feedback sessions to discuss progress and situational matters. Utilize primarily local open-media sources, including local language publications, to report on developments. This role contributes to ensuring reliable information flow for the UN Country Team's operations in Azerbaijan.
Work Experience
Prior experience in research, analysis, and reporting is required. A proven motivation and interest in development, country developments, security, international affairs, and geopolitics are also necessary. Additional knowledge of languages spoken in the region is considered a strong asset.
