With a long history of collaboration in China since 1947, UNICEF China promotes policies and laws safeguarding children's rights. The Social Policy Section focuses on child poverty, social protection, public financial management, and local governance, generating evidence to inform policies that benefit all children, especially the most vulnerable. This assignment contributes to strengthening China's social protection system.
Job Purpose
This UNV assignment offers an opportunity to contribute to UNICEF China's efforts in strengthening the social protection system. The role involves supporting the Social Policy Section's work on child poverty, social protection, public financial management, and local governance. The incumbent will assist in generating evidence to inform legislation and policies that ensure equitable and inclusive social protection and basic public services for all children, particularly the most vulnerable. The assignment directly supports programmes aimed at enhancing social protection mechanisms within China, aligning with UNICEF's mandate to protect and promote children's rights and well-being.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Social Policy Specialist, the UN Associate Volunteer will support AI-empowered social assistance initiatives by coordinating studies, documenting progress, and preparing technical documents. Responsibilities include conducting desk research on social protection areas like social assistance, health insurance, and childcare subsidies. The role involves supporting evidence generation and research management, reviewing reports, and drafting policy notes. Additionally, the volunteer will develop communication and advocacy content to promote child-sensitive social protection and assist in organizing seminars, workshops, and technical consultations with stakeholders. The volunteer is also encouraged to integrate the UNV mandate by promoting volunteerism and engaging with communities.
Work Experience
Requires 1 month of relevant experience. Knowledge of China's social protection system is a strong advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn about social policy developments, including AI in social protection. Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) are essential. Previous volunteer or intern experience is desired.
