Communications and South-South Cooperation Assistant
Organizational Context
UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is the UN's sexual and reproductive health agency dedicated to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Operating in approximately 150 countries, UNFPA collaborates with governments and partners to advance reproductive rights and choices. In China, UNFPA has focused on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and population data since 1979, currently implementing its tenth Country Programme (2026-2030) to build population resilience and ensure universal access to SRHR.
Job Purpose
This National UN Volunteer position will provide essential communications support to the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) component of the UNFPA China Country Programme. The role involves assisting in the management, coordination, and communication efforts for UNFPA projects funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF) and the Ministry of Commerce (MoFCOM). The incumbent will also play a key role in communication and outreach activities targeting the private sector, foundations, philanthropic institutions, and academia, contributing to the programme's visibility and engagement.
Responsibilities
The Communications and South-South Cooperation Assistant will support media and communications for UNFPA's SSTC activities, focusing on digital platforms. This includes planning and implementing communication events, creating communication products like posters and slides, and designing visual materials for online and offline use. The role also involves supporting knowledge development and documentation for GDF projects, including developing media engagement strategies and preparing bilingual materials such as press releases and policy briefs. The assistant will contribute to generating knowledge products, documenting best practices, and preparing fact sheets and issue briefs. Language support for translation and editing of project reports and communication materials is required, along with monitoring communication activities. The volunteer is also encouraged to integrate the UNV programme mandate, promote volunteerism, and engage with communities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with 1 year of relevant experience being desirable. Strong graphic design skills, proficiency with design tools, and experience in visual storytelling are essential. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are also necessary. An interest in South-South cooperation, population development, youth empowerment, and SRHR is beneficial.
