Job Purpose
This UNV assignment aims to strengthen the prevention, management, and continuity of care for Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) within Sudan's public health and health security framework. The role will provide crucial technical support and coordination at the country level, ensuring NCD services are integrated into national health plans, including emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. By liaising with national health authorities and partners, the assignment will contribute to building national capacity to deliver essential NCD services, even during crises and in fragile settings, aligning with WHO's global and regional guidance and national priorities.
Responsibilities
The UNV Officer will integrate Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) into health services, focusing on maintaining essential care during disruptions in fragile settings. This includes developing a national essential NCD services package aligned with WHO guidelines, promoting community engagement, and strengthening the NCD workforce through training and capacity building. The role involves supporting NCD inclusion in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery plans, acting as an NCD focal point, coordinating partners, and assisting with integrating NCD services into humanitarian response plans. Furthermore, the officer will enhance monitoring and evaluation systems by developing work plans, integrating NCD indicators, designing data collection tools, building capacity for data use, producing reports, supporting risk factor surveys, and documenting best practices for NCD-focused emergency reviews.
Work Experience
Requires at least five years of experience in public health program implementation, with a focus on NCDs, primary health care, or health systems strengthening. Experience working in emergency or humanitarian contexts, or supporting NCDs in such settings, is desirable.
Skills
Competencies include teamwork, respect for diversity, communication, self-management, results-orientation, and adaptability. Expertise areas include crisis and emergency response, development programs, and health.
