Job Purpose
The Stress Counsellor will monitor stressors affecting UN staff in Yemen, identify emerging trends, and develop customized psychosocial support initiatives to enhance overall wellbeing. This role involves close coordination with UN medical doctors, security advisors, HR officers, and other counsellors to ensure a comprehensive approach to staff mental health and resilience. The incumbent will provide individual and group counselling, facilitate stress management training, conduct psychosocial needs assessments, and assist in establishing Critical Incident Stress Intervention Cells. The position requires advising management on stress mitigation strategies and coordinating peer support networks.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a stress prevention and management plan for all UN agencies in Yemen. Provide individual and group stress management and critical incident counselling to staff and dependents. Plan and facilitate preventative stress management training and circulate relevant resources. Conduct ongoing psychosocial needs assessments, monitor stress determinants, and map resources. Assist in establishing Critical Incident Stress Intervention Cells, including training Peer Helpers. Identify and follow up on high-stress and critical incident stress cases. Advise UN management on stress mitigation strategies and collaborate with a network of professionals. Coordinate the Peer Support Personnel Network. Travel to UN offices to conduct training and provide consultations. Coordinate critical incident stress management activities with relevant stakeholders. Maintain confidential records on the CISMS Integrated Data Management platform and analyze trends. Provide monthly activity reports to the Chief Security Adviser.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of overall experience is required, with at least 5 years of professional work experience in mental health, psychosocial support, counselling, staff wellbeing, or stress management. Experience dealing with international and national staff and agencies is required. Experience in gender mainstreaming and addressing cultural sensitivity issues is desirable. Additional certifications or experience in related fields such as substance abuse or behavioral problems would be an asset.
