The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) - LAC Hub drives the Regional Mapathon, a collaborative mapping initiative to enhance geospatial data availability for humanitarian response, urban planning, and risk management across the region.
Job Purpose
This role supports the communication and dissemination of the Regional Mapathon 2026, an initiative by the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) - LAC Hub. The objective is to enhance the reach and impact of the event through a robust communication strategy. The volunteer will contribute to generating visibility, engaging participants, and acknowledging their contributions. This effort aims to strengthen partnerships, citizen capabilities, and the open data ecosystem for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean, aligning with SDG 17.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will join a team of three to support the communication and dissemination of the Regional Mapathon in Latin America. Key responsibilities include designing approximately 10 visual promotional materials (flyers, banners) adhering to HOT LAC Hub's graphic identity. This involves creating a content calendar for social media posts (2-3 per week) and producing 10 audiovisual materials featuring testimonials from volunteers and public officials. Additionally, the volunteer will generate and send digital participation certificates to mappers. Guidance on tools like Canva and institutional templates will be provided, with a focus on collaborative work and learning.
Work Experience
Interest in digital communication, graphic design, or social media management is required. Intermediate proficiency in Canva is necessary. Experience in writing clear and engaging content in Spanish is also needed. Prior experience in humanitarian work, open data, or participatory mapping is desirable.
