Map Youth Employability & SRH Integration Programs in Botswana
Organizational Context
UNFPA Botswana operates in a country with a significant youth bulge, facing high youth unemployment and shifting dependency patterns. While there's a demographic opportunity, challenges include potential social instability and strain on health financing. Gaps persist in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) access for young people, exacerbated by gender-based violence and inequalities. UNFPA Botswana aims to address these by mapping youth programs and identifying integration points for SRH services.
Job Purpose
This role involves conducting a comprehensive mapping of existing youth employability, empowerment, and entrepreneurship initiatives across Botswana. The primary goal is to identify strategic opportunities for integrating Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) services and information into these programs. The volunteer will analyze the reach and impact of current initiatives, assess their alignment with UNFPA's SRH mandate, and determine how they can be leveraged as delivery points for essential SRH education and services. This will contribute to enhancing program impact and supporting young people's well-being and development in Botswana.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will map and profile youth empowerment, employability, and entrepreneurship initiatives across government, CSO, and private sectors. This includes evaluating the reach, impact, and alignment of these programs with UNFPA's SRH mandate. A key task is assessing how current programs can be adapted to serve as delivery points for SRH education and services. Additionally, the volunteer will develop a stakeholder map and consultation brief to facilitate engagement with relevant stakeholders. This collaborative effort aims to explore effective integration strategies for SRH services and information, fostering strategic partnerships and professional connections within UNFPA.
Work Experience
Candidates should possess at least 10 years of programme management experience, including implementing youth development programs with a focus on SRH. Experience working with government ministries and civil society organizations, particularly youth-led or women-led ones, is required. Experience in producing advocacy materials, policy briefs, and writing clear, comprehensive reports is also necessary. Research experience and strong verbal/written communication skills are essential. UN experience is considered an advantage.
Skills
Key skills include strong verbal and written communication, research capabilities, and the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports. Experience in programme management, particularly in youth development and SRH, is crucial. Familiarity with government ministries and civil society organizations is important. The role requires an understanding of how to produce advocacy materials and policy briefs. Proficiency in English is mandatory.
