Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the global authority on environmental issues, promoting sustainable development and advocating for the environment. This role supports the Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention), a key regional governance framework. The Secretariat is currently implementing major projects funded by Russian ODA, the Adaptation Fund, and the Global Environment Facility, requiring enhanced promotional materials.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to support the Secretariat of the Tehran Convention by developing a comprehensive suite of visual communication materials for three key environmental projects: Marine Litter, Adaptation Fund, and GEF. The volunteer will translate complex technical environmental data into visually appealing, minimalist designs. These assets will be crucial for effectively communicating project achievements and objectives to both high-level delegates at summits and broader digital audiences, thereby enhancing the visibility and impact of the Caspian Sea environmental protection initiatives.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Tehran Convention Officer, the volunteer will create a cohesive visual identity for each of the three projects. This includes designing high-resolution, minimalist pull-up banners for physical events. Additionally, the volunteer will produce 2-page, magazine-style "Executive Summary" factsheets in English and Russian, optimized for both print and digital use. A set of square graphic tiles for social media and website use, and premium infographic postcards summarizing key project achievements will also be developed. The role requires managing multiple project sub-brands while maintaining a unified organizational look and ensuring designs are suitable for both large-format print and web.
Work Experience
Professional graphic design experience is required, with a strong portfolio showcasing minimalist and modern layout design. Experience in information design, including transforming complex data into clean icons and visualizations, is essential. The candidate should also have experience designing for both large-format print and web-optimized digital assets.
Skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is required. Essential skills include creativity, the ability to produce standout visual content, strong planning and organizing capabilities to meet deadlines, and professionalism with attention to detail regarding UN/Donor branding and high-resolution output.
