Job Purpose
This role supports UN Women Uganda's efforts to ensure that by 2030, people in Uganda, especially vulnerable populations, benefit from gender-responsive employment and increased household incomes. The assignment directly contributes to Outcome 3 of the UN Women Uganda Strategic Note and Outcome 2 of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The UN Volunteer will implement and coordinate key priority programmes focused on women's economic empowerment, resilience, and digital inclusion, particularly for refugee and host communities. This includes initiatives like the Advancing Economic Empowerment and Livelihood Support for Refugee and Host Community Women and Girls, the Women-Led Aquaculture and Climate Resilience Project, and the African Girls Can Code Initiative. The role also strengthens coordination within the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF), promoting gender-responsive priorities and a shift towards development-oriented approaches.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will contribute to programme design and strategic planning in women's economic empowerment, supporting the formulation of integrated strategies and providing technical inputs for proposals and policy briefs. They will assist in the implementation and coordination of key programmes, including drafting workplans, budgets, and ensuring linkages between skills development, asset access, and enterprise creation. The role involves providing technical assistance and capacity development to partners on economic empowerment and climate-resilient livelihoods, coordinating engagement with government, private sector, and civil society. Monitoring, reporting, and results tracking are crucial, including participating in field missions and drafting reports. The volunteer will also support partnerships and resource mobilization by contributing to developing relationships with various stakeholders and identifying funding opportunities. Furthermore, they will contribute to inter-agency and stakeholder coordination, particularly within the CRRF, facilitating engagement and ensuring alignment of UN Women's programmes with national and UN priorities. Finally, the role includes supporting advocacy, knowledge building, and communication efforts by developing relevant documents and contributing to knowledge management products.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated experience or strong interest in Women’s Economic Empowerment, livelihoods development, the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, education, or gender equality is essential. Experience or interest in coordinating with diverse stakeholders, including government, development partners, and civil society, is also required. Proficiency in common office software and strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Fluency in English is mandatory.
