Organizational Context
The UNDP Global Centre in Singapore, a joint initiative with the Singapore Government, focuses on programme and partnership development. Operating within UNDP’s Digital, AI and Innovation (DAI) Hub, it leverages digital technologies and innovation to support governments and partners in addressing complex development challenges. Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment supports the Climate and Sustainability workstream at the UNDP Global Centre. The role focuses on driving the transition towards sustainable, resilient, and low-carbon urban environments by addressing challenges like urbanization, climate change, and environmental degradation. The volunteer will contribute to identifying, co-creating, and sharing innovative technological solutions for sustainable development, particularly in areas of circularity, carbon economy, and green transformation. The objective is to catalyze new insights, partnerships, and actions in UNDP-supported countries, advancing inclusive green growth and positioning UNDP as a leader in these critical fields.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the Climate and Sustainability Specialist by developing knowledge products such as reports, briefs, and frameworks on circularity, carbon economy, and air pollution, with context-specific recommendations. This includes identifying and documenting innovative case studies and mapping key stakeholders in Singapore to leverage local experiences. The role involves supporting the design of carbon pricing instruments and circular economy principles, translating technical insights into accessible knowledge products for diverse partners, and fostering collaboration within the DAI Hub to align with innovation and sustainability agendas. Additionally, the volunteer will assist in planning and executing workshops and events, including communication and promotion efforts.
Work Experience
One month of relevant experience is required, with a demonstrated interest and/or experience in climate, sustainability, environmental protection, and development. Previous volunteer experience or experience in a different cultural context (e.g., studies, volunteer work, internships) is highly regarded.
Skills
Key competencies include adaptability, flexibility, communication, and integrity. Expertise in development programmes is also noted. The role requires a demonstrated interest and/or experience in climate, sustainability, environmental protection, and development.
