Organizational Context

UNICEF operates in Syria to support children affected by conflict, displacement, and economic hardship, delivering essential services in health, nutrition, WASH, education, and child protection. Given the significant needs and reliance on donor funding, effective communication and donor visibility are crucial for demonstrating results, accountability, and the impact of UNICEF's programmes. This role supports the Communication and Advocacy Section in showcasing UNICEF's work and donor contributions.

Job Purpose

This UN Volunteer assignment supports UNICEF Syria's Communication and Advocacy Section by documenting programme results, enhancing donor visibility, and producing compelling communication materials. The role involves creating human-interest stories, digital and social media content, and other visibility outputs aligned with UNICEF guidelines and donor requirements. The UN Volunteer will collaborate with programme sections, field offices, and partners to gather information and communication assets, support multimedia content production, and ensure effective communication of UNICEF's activities and donor contributions. The ultimate goal is to strengthen UNICEF's visibility, transparency, and public engagement, advocating for children's rights and well-being in Syria.

Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer will support the documentation and communication of UNICEF programme results across various sectors, including health, nutrition, WASH, education, and child protection. Responsibilities include assisting in ensuring donor visibility compliance by preparing and reviewing visibility materials like plaques and banners. The role involves contributing to the development of communication materials such as human-interest stories, social media content, and multimedia products. The UN Volunteer will support the production of reports, infographics, and digital content showcasing programme impact and donor contributions. Additionally, the role includes collecting and organizing field content, supporting social media post preparation and monitoring, contributing to media monitoring, coordinating communication inputs from different sections, and assisting in organizing communication activities for campaigns and events. All outputs must adhere to UNICEF guidelines, ethical standards, and child safeguarding principles.

Work Experience

Requires at least one year of professional experience in communications, public relations, literature, or advocacy. Experience in content creation, design, or with the UN/international development organizations is advantageous. Strong written and verbal communication, drafting, editing, and reporting skills are essential. Demonstrated experience in developing various communication materials and high accuracy in document production are needed. Interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work collaboratively in a challenging environment are important.
