Job Purpose
This assignment supports UNEP's Chief Digital Office in Nairobi, focusing on digital transformation and artificial intelligence initiatives. The UN Volunteer Special Assistant will provide direct support to the Chief Digital Officer, managing daily priorities, stakeholder engagements, and strategic research on AI, digital innovation, and environmental sustainability. The role aims to enhance internal coordination, improve preparedness for high-level engagements, and analyze emerging digital trends. By strengthening the office's operational capacity, the assignment contributes to the effective implementation of UNEP's digital strategies and its mandate to tackle critical environmental challenges, fostering a more data-driven and agile approach.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer Special Assistant will report to the UNEP Chief Digital Officer and provide comprehensive organizational and research support. Key responsibilities include logistical and analytical support for meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations, including preparing documents, drafting summaries, and delivering presentations. The role involves assisting in generating talking points, speech inputs, and presentations, as well as setting up meetings and managing the CDO's daily agenda and pending tasks. Additionally, the volunteer will conduct strategic research and analysis on AI, digital technologies, and sustainability trends, monitoring policy discourses and their implications for UNEP's digital agenda. The role also includes contributing to UNV's broader objectives by promoting volunteerism and sharing field experiences.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required in areas such as research, policy analysis, strategic coordination, or project support. Demonstrated ability to conduct structured research, synthesize complex information, and support high-level meetings and stakeholder engagements is essential. Strong drafting, organizational, and analytical skills are needed, with a proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration tools. Experience within the UN system or familiarity with AI and digital governance are considered desirable.
