Young Professional - Inclusive Value Chains
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's lead agency for international development, working in 170 countries to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. Their current Country Programme (2023-2027) aims to accelerate SDG achievement through strong institutions, enhanced economic opportunities for marginalized groups, and climate-smart solutions, promoting gender equality and social inclusion.
Job Purpose
This role supports the "Market Led Inclusive Value Chain Development" project, which aims to strengthen women's economic empowerment and create resilient, equitable value chains for sustainable livelihoods. The Young Professional will contribute to enhancing incomes, asset ownership, and productivity, particularly for rural women and marginalized communities. The assignment focuses on integrating gender-responsive strategies across value chains, from post-harvest operations to market engagement, and supporting the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) in its efforts to improve institutional capacity, service delivery, and coverage of support schemes.
Responsibilities
The Young Professional will support the coordination and implementation of inclusive value chain development activities under the Market-Led Inclusive Value Chain Development Programme. Key tasks include assisting in planning and executing programme activities across selected value chains, coordinating with government departments, State Rural Livelihood Missions, private sector partners, and producer organizations. The role involves organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, preparing background materials, and documenting best practices. Additionally, the position requires monitoring programme progress, compiling data, supporting report preparation, and providing coordination and logistical support to ensure timely delivery of outputs and effective knowledge sharing.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional or academic experience is required in areas like programme coordination, livelihoods, rural development, or value chain development. Experience supporting development programmes with government agencies, NGOs, or private sector stakeholders is desirable. Familiarity with livelihood programmes, producer collectives, or value chain initiatives is an asset. Strong coordination, documentation, reporting, and interpersonal skills are essential.
