Programme Specialist (Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is dedicated to global peace, security, human rights, and development by combating drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism. Operating in 150 countries, UNODC's Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) implements a Regional Framework (2023-2028) focused on six key areas, including combating trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants (TIP and SOM). This role supports initiatives under this specific focus area within the MENA region.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UNODC TIP and SOM team in Tunis, Tunisia, addressing the pervasive issues of human trafficking and migrant smuggling in the Arab States. These crimes, often driven by systemic inequalities and conflict, disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. The UN Volunteer will contribute to programme development, coordination, and reporting for initiatives aimed at combating these crimes and their drivers. The position is crucial for enhancing regional capacity, improving data collection, and informing policy decisions to counter these complex challenges and protect human rights.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will assist the National Programme Officer and the TIP and SOM team by managing communications and ensuring information flow to stakeholders through regular updates and reports. Responsibilities include supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of programme activities like workshops and training sessions. The role involves assisting in the preparation and dissemination of evaluation reports, monitoring project indicators, and documenting best practices. The volunteer will also support communication and visibility activities, contribute to media dissemination, and assist with the organization and reporting of expert missions and technical meetings. General administrative support, including drafting meeting minutes and organizing files, is also required, along with document translation as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience is required, with 5 years of relevant experience in administrative support, programme coordination, or project assistance. Experience in communication, logistics, or research is considered an asset. Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media) is essential. Experience with the UN or similar international organizations is desirable.

Proficiency in computer applications and strong interpersonal and networking skills are also important.
