Organizational Context
The United Nations Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (MSDCF) for the Caribbean (2022-2026) guides UN development activities across 22 countries, supporting the 2030 Agenda and focusing on 'Build Back Better' post-COVID-19. It addresses regional vulnerabilities and prioritizes specific SDG targets across four thematic areas. The UNRCO Trinidad and Tobago office implements this framework, partnering with national governments and stakeholders to achieve development objectives and ensure alignment with national agendas through annual Country Implementation Plans.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for enhancing the Common Country Analysis (CCA) for Sint Maarten, transforming it into a visually compelling and accessible publication. The objective is to position the CCA as an effective tool for outreach, advocacy, and policy engagement with national stakeholders, development partners, and civil society. By elevating the clarity and accessibility of key findings, the work will influence dialogue and decision-making, directly informing the next MSDCF iteration. The contribution extends beyond design to supporting the broader development agenda by ensuring critical development insights are effectively communicated, disseminated, and acted upon, reinforcing the UN's role as a knowledge partner and facilitating evidence-based planning in Sint Maarten.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is the graphic design and professional layout of the Common Country Analysis (CCA) report for Sint Maarten. This involves transforming a technical document into a publication-ready product that is visually compelling and accessible. The expert will develop a design system aligned with UN branding guidelines to enhance readability, narrative flow, and visual hierarchy. Key tasks include integrating text, data visualizations, and infographics into a consistent layout that clearly communicates complex development insights to diverse audiences. The role focuses on packaging the provided content for digital and print dissemination, ensuring clarity, consistency, and effective presentation of data. This includes creating optimized, interactive-ready PDFs for digital use and press-ready files for print, meeting the standards of flagship UN publications.
Work Experience
Demonstrated experience in editorial design, publication layout, and producing high-quality reports is required. While extensive years of experience are not mandatory, a strong portfolio of work on reports, policy documents, or similar long-form publications, ideally within development or international organization contexts, is essential. Familiarity with digital publishing formats and print production requirements is also necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required. Essential skills include a solid understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, color theory, and data visualization. The ability to translate complex analytical content into clear, engaging, and accessible design formats aligned with UN branding standards is crucial. Adaptability in using AI-assisted design tools for efficiency and quality, strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and effective communication for feedback are also critical.
