Access to Public Information Mapping - Venezuela
Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the leading UN entity for human rights, committed to promoting and protecting the full spectrum of human rights. Operating in Venezuela since 2019, OHCHR provides independent assessments, monitors trends, and integrates human rights and gender equality into UN programming. The limited availability and quality of public information in Venezuela hinders rights monitoring and institutional engagement, necessitating this assignment.
Job Purpose
This online assignment aims to strengthen OHCHR's technical assistance in Venezuela by creating a comprehensive repository of publicly available information on access to public information. The purpose is to map existing information, identify critical gaps across various sectors, and incorporate gender and vulnerability considerations. The expected contribution is a structured, user-friendly repository that offers an overview of the access to public information landscape in prioritized sectors, serving as a valuable tool for technical assistance and analytical work by the OHCHR team.
Responsibilities
Online volunteers will collaboratively systematize publicly available information on access to public information in Venezuela using a human rights-based approach. Key activities include identifying information from Venezuelan public sector institutions, collecting and organizing it using standardized categories (institution, sector, type, date, format, accessibility), and prioritizing sectors relevant to human rights in coordination with the OHCHR team. Volunteers will apply principles of transparency, accountability, participation, non-discrimination, and gender equality. All sources must be open and public. The sole deliverable is a structured repository providing an overview of access to public information in prioritized sectors, suitable for technical assistance and analytical purposes.
Work Experience
Experience in desk research, information mapping, data collection, or systematization of qualitative information is required. Candidates must be able to identify, review, and organize publicly available sources consistently and possess strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
