Operating across seven regional and sub-regional offices, including Jayapura, UNICEF Indonesia supports planning, financing, and service delivery to ensure quality, equity, and sustainability. The country office focuses on nutrition, health, water and sanitation, child protection, social policy, and education, with cross-cutting priorities like climate change and gender equality.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF's mission to advance children's rights in Indonesia, specifically within the Nutrition Section of the Jayapura Field Office. The assignment focuses on reducing the triple burden of malnutrition by strengthening capacities for evidence-based planning, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation of multisectoral nutrition programs. The volunteer will contribute to delivering equitable nutrition services for mothers, infants, young children, and adolescents, and promote social and behavior change approaches for improved childcare and nutrition practices. The position plays a crucial role in supporting program implementation across the Papua region, addressing critical health and nutrition needs.
Responsibilities
The Nutrition Officer will support the implementation and field-level follow-up of UNICEF's nutrition programs in the Papua region, covering four key pillars: maternal and child nutrition (MIYCN), school-age and adolescent nutrition, food systems, nutrition and climate change, and integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM). Responsibilities include contributing to program planning, implementation, monitoring, and coordination through organizing meetings, conducting field visits, and providing technical support. The role involves offering hands-on operational support to government counterparts and partners, ensuring compliance with UNICEF procedures. Additionally, the officer will assist in evidence generation, strategy development, advocacy, knowledge management, and documentation of program results to enhance nutrition interventions in priority areas.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional work experience at the national level in nutrition programs is required. Experience working in Papua or with UN/international development organizations is an asset. Proficiency in MS Office applications, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment are essential. Familiarity with statistical tools and analysis is also beneficial.
Skills
Key competencies include professionalism, integrity, teamwork, respect for diversity, and a commitment to continuous learning. The role requires strong planning and organizing skills, effective communication abilities (written and verbal), and adaptability to challenging environments. A genuine commitment to volunteerism principles and UNICEF's mission is essential. Technical skills in nutrition program implementation, monitoring, and evaluation are necessary.
