Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator (RC) system in Syria aims to enhance UN agency collaboration for effective operational activities and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. In a country heavily contaminated by landmines and explosive ordnance following a decade of conflict, mine action is crucial for recovery, dignity, and stability. The UN, in partnership with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management and NGOs, is launching a national campaign to protect lives, enable recovery, and prevent further casualties.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UN's "No More Mines" campaign in Syria, a critical initiative to address the pervasive threat of landmines and explosive ordnance. The campaign seeks to protect lives, enable safe recovery, and prevent further casualties in a post-conflict environment where communities are returning and rebuilding. Volunteers will contribute to raising awareness on life-saving behaviors, ensuring communities receive vital information, and strengthening support for recovery efforts. The assignment offers an opportunity to amplify a unified UN voice, contribute to a high-impact national campaign, and gain experience in communication, media, and advocacy, directly supporting safe community protection and rebuilding.
Responsibilities
Volunteers will support the "No More Mines" campaign through one of five specialized teams. The Campaign Dissemination Team will share verified materials across platforms and adapt captions for diverse audiences. The Content Creation Team will develop social media posts, reels, and captions, tailoring messages for donors, government, communities, and media. The Video & Storytelling Support Team will assist with scripting, storytelling, and editing short videos. The Campaign Strategy & Reach Tracking Team will suggest posting schedules, monitor engagement, and provide insights for dissemination. The Translation & Localization Team will proofread materials, ensuring cultural relevance and emotional resonance in Arabic and English.
