Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF's education programs in Kenya, focusing on improving access to quality education for children aged 0-18, especially girls in disadvantaged regions and those affected by humanitarian crises. The objective is to increase enrollment and retention in pre-primary and primary education, enhance learning outcomes, and ensure children and adolescents in emergencies have equitable access to safe learning opportunities. The UN Volunteer will contribute to coordinated implementation, monitoring, and field engagement, specifically strengthening adolescent and youth participation in the PROSPECTS program through cross-section coordination, data management for education, and engagement with the Education in Emergencies working group.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support inclusive PROSPECTS coordination by facilitating consultations and representing refugee youth voices, contributing to national decision-making. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of EiE, Access, and Inclusive Education portfolios by tracking activity plans and ensuring smooth rollout. The role involves assisting in planning and coordinating program activities like teacher trainings and community mobilization, participating in field missions, and documenting observations. The volunteer will contribute to monitoring, reporting, and data management by collecting and cleaning datasets, and preparing progress updates. Additionally, the role supports knowledge management by compiling lessons learned and best practices, and contributes to the Education in Emergencies Working Group by preparing briefs and managing information. The volunteer will also assist in strengthening national child and adolescent participation guidelines and support situation analyses for adolescent development activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with at least 1 year of demonstrated experience in volunteer work or community engagement, preferably in education programs or data management. Experience working with children, adolescents, and young people is essential. Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work inclusively are necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital skills are required. Self-motivation and adaptability in challenging environments are also important.
