Job Purpose
This role provides essential editorial support for the Best Practices Policy Project's (BPPP) monthly newsletter and magazine. These publications are crucial platforms for sharing ongoing initiatives, organizing efforts, and engagement opportunities within sex worker and LGBTQ+ led advocacy, mutual aid, and creative projects. In a global context of heightened instability and human rights challenges, particularly affecting vulnerable groups, this volunteer will contribute to clear and effective communication. The support is vital for disseminating information and fostering continued engagement with critical advocacy work.
Responsibilities
The online volunteer will support BPPP's communications by editing and proofreading articles for the monthly magazine and newsletter, which are drafted by organization staff. The newsletter is typically 3-3 pages, and the magazine up to 10 pages. The volunteer will receive articles from senior staff and may attend bi-weekly staff meetings for check-ins and to understand the project's work. Additionally, the volunteer will attend bi-weekly coalition meetings to identify and note potential article contributions from colleagues. Key tasks include entering materials into Mailchimp templates for newsletter creation (up to 12 hours/month), sending draft emails to co-editors (1 hour), incorporating feedback (up to 3 hours/month), and optionally writing dot points.
Work Experience
Required experience includes reporting or copy editing, strong editorial judgment, exceptional writing and editing skills, and proficiency in digital content. Desired experience encompasses expert-level writing, editing, and proofreading, a strong understanding of digital publishing tools and social media integration, and excellent organizational skills with multitasking abilities and attention to detail.
