The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Micronesia, established in October 2021, supports the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) in leading the UN Country Team. Job Purpose
This role provides substantive support to the Resident Coordinator (RC) and Head of Office in planning, coordinating, and managing the UN Country Team. The Special Assistant will assist with RC's missions, prepare meeting summaries, and follow up on actions. Responsibilities include analyzing information to identify priorities, drafting correspondence and briefing materials, and supporting communication efforts. The position facilitates information flow between the RC's office and the UN Country Team, prepares for key meetings, and manages knowledge building and exchange. Additionally, the role supports policy research, programme analysis, and monitoring of UN mandate implementation in the region, contributing to country programming processes and resource mobilization.
Responsibilities
Provide substantive support to the Resident Coordinator (RC) and Head of Office for UN Country Team planning, coordination, and management. Assist with RC's missions, prepare meeting notes, summaries, and follow-up actions. Analyze incoming information to identify urgent priorities and propose solutions. Draft and review correspondence, briefing notes, speeches, and talking points for the RC. Support internal and external communication efforts in collaboration with the Communications Officer. Facilitate communication flow between the RC's office and the UN Country Team, prepare for UN Country Team and Country Management Team meetings, draft minutes, and track decisions. Support data collection, reporting, and information sharing for the RC's office. Maintain shared drives, calendars, and databases. Prepare and update information materials, briefings, and presentations. Contribute to UN Country Team reporting requirements and the annual reporting cycle for the UN Coordination Framework. Support the coordination of the RC's Work Plan and facilitate knowledge management. Conduct policy research and analysis, preparing briefs for strategic priorities. Support country programming processes, including Common Country Analysis, joint programming, communications, resource mobilization, and reporting. Monitor developments and emerging trends related to the UN Country Team's mandate and implementation plans. Participate in program/project development, implementation, and evaluation.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in coordination, programme support, or development cooperation. Experience with the United Nations or other international organizations is required. Experience in multi-country or regional coordination contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Pacific region is an asset. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, drafting, stakeholder engagement, partnership building, organizational, and time management skills are essential. Proficiency in IT, including MS Office and collaborative platforms, is required.
