Job Purpose

This role aims to empower underprivileged children in Tamil Nadu, India, by enhancing their English communication skills and confidence through free spoken English and ESL classes. The volunteer will contribute to improving students' future educational and personal opportunities by providing a supportive environment for practicing English. The assignment is designed to help students overcome barriers related to limited access to quality English education. Volunteers will work collaboratively with project coordinators and other volunteers to achieve the organization's educational mission, with training and materials provided.

Responsibilities

Conduct engaging online spoken English and ESL classes for underprivileged children and teenagers in Tamil Nadu, India. Teach fundamental English skills including reading, pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversational techniques. Foster student confidence and encourage active participation in English discussions. Adhere to the provided curriculum and teaching methodologies. Coordinate class schedules and monitor student progress with project coordinators. Participate in mandatory orientation and onboarding sessions prior to commencing classes. Classes are delivered remotely via Zoom or Google Meet, requiring a commitment of at least 2 hours per week on two consecutive days, typically between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM IST.

Work Experience

While not mandatory, some background in teaching is advantageous. Proficiency in both English and Tamil (fluent level) is a required qualification for this role.

Skills

Strong proficiency in English and fluent command of Tamil are essential. Ability to conduct engaging and interactive online classes. Skills in teaching basic spoken English, reading, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Capacity to foster student confidence and encourage participation. Commitment to following a provided curriculum and coordinating with project staff.
