Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and timely transportation of authorized personnel, and potentially cargo or hazardous goods, within the operational area. This role requires a high degree of professionalism, courtesy, and discretion, especially when interacting with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining accurate vehicle logs, performing routine checks and minor repairs to ensure vehicle roadworthiness, and assisting with administrative and facility support tasks as needed. The position contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of project activities by providing essential logistical support.
Responsibilities
Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for authorized personnel and cargo. Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as required. Meet and assist personnel at the airport, including facilitating immigration and customs. Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs and contribute to maintenance plans. Perform routine vehicle checks, minor repairs, and ensure vehicles are kept clean and roadworthy. Safekeep all necessary vehicle documents and supplies. Respond to accidents according to organizational regulations. Assist with procurement processes, obtain quotations, and manage inventory of office supplies. Support facility management by arranging minor repairs and maintaining a roster of service providers. Monitor office equipment performance and respond to maintenance requests.
Work Experience
Required experience includes safe driving, defensive driving, and minor vehicle repair. A strong understanding of driving rules and regulations is essential. Experience working in multicultural environments or with UN system organizations in a developing country, as well as in development or humanitarian contexts, is desirable.
