Organizational Context
The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports sustainable development, climate action, and peacebuilding globally. Operating from Geneva, it collaborates with governments and UN agencies to deliver project management, fund management, and HR support. This role specifically supports the Cities Alliance initiative, focusing on strengthening its presence and partnerships within the USA, particularly with the World Bank.
Job Purpose
The Senior Partnerships and Engagement Strategy Advisor will provide expert advice to strengthen the Cities Alliance's relationships with US-based partners, notably the World Bank. This role is crucial for enhancing the organization's profile, influence, and engagement within the USA. The advisor will represent Cities Alliance, offer senior technical and strategic guidance, and identify new opportunities for collaboration and funding, thereby contributing directly to the organization's business development and partnership goals in a challenging geopolitical landscape.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Cities Alliance Director, the Senior Advisor will maintain up-to-date knowledge of the organization's strategy and work. Key responsibilities include regular engagement with the World Bank, Habitat for Humanity International, and UNOPS Washington. The role involves identifying and proposing new potential partners, exploring avenues to expand Cities Alliance's reach and influence, and representing the organization at relevant meetings and events. Strategic technical input, review of programs, and advisory services on concept notes for World Bank projects are essential. The advisor will also actively seek and report on funding opportunities within the World Bank and its project windows.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of professional experience in sustainable and inclusive urban development is required. Experience working with multilateral development institutions or international financial institutions, senior representation, stakeholder/donor management, and expertise in urban development are essential. Experience engaging with partners in the urban sector is also necessary. Thorough knowledge of World Bank operations is desirable.
