Organizational Context

The UNOPS Africa Regional Office manages over 250 projects across 40 countries, focusing on fragile and conflict-affected regions. The North Africa Multi-Country Office (NAMCO) in Tunis oversees operations in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and Morocco, supporting socio-economic development through projects in health, justice, climate action, and environmental preservation. NAMCO collaborates with governments and institutions to advance SDGs.

Job Purpose

The Communications Officer develops and implements strategic communication plans to support project and program objectives. This role involves analyzing communication contexts, managing editorial calendars, and producing high-quality content, including press releases, social media posts, and reports. The incumbent also serves as a focal point for external partners and donors, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and appropriate organizational representation. The primary goal is to enhance the visibility and impact of UNOPS initiatives across the North Africa region.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement communication strategies and plans aligned with project objectives. Analyze local communication contexts, target audiences, and channels to optimize outreach and impact. Create and manage diverse editorial content, including press releases, social media updates, website content, videos, and fact sheets. Collect and structure data for accessible communication materials. Coordinate content production across various channels and collaborate with technical experts on reports and articles. Maintain effective communication with donors, clients, partners, and stakeholders. Support the organization of external events and ensure appropriate representation. Contribute to knowledge sharing and learning sessions on communication topics, and conduct research to inform reports and briefings.

Work Experience

Requires relevant professional experience in communication, public relations, media, or journalism. Experience with collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and online management systems is necessary. Experience in multicultural environments, developing countries, or humanitarian/development contexts is desirable, as is experience creating and monitoring local content and using graphic design/video production tools.
