Job Purpose

The Communications Senior Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans to support UNOPS projects and programs in Madagascar. This involves analyzing communication contexts, managing editorial calendars, and producing high-quality content such as press releases, social media posts, and reports. The role also serves as a key liaison for internal stakeholders, external partners, and donors, ensuring effective engagement and representation of UNOPS's work and impact.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and monitor the overall communication strategy and work plans for UNOPS Madagascar, analyzing local and institutional communication contexts. Design and oversee communication and visibility plans for all projects, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and UNOPS branding. Produce diverse high-quality materials including press releases, reports, web articles, blog posts, case studies, and fact sheets. Collaborate with technical experts to translate complex data into accessible communication materials. Design impactful graphic materials like infographics and presentations, adhering to visual identity standards. Manage end-to-end multimedia production, including field-based photography and video editing for dynamic messaging. Plan and participate in field visibility missions to gather qualitative information and document project progress. Develop and manage editorial calendars for digital platforms and social media, creating engaging content and running targeted digital campaigns. Maintain the office's photo, video, and visual resource library. Ensure effective communication with donors, clients, partners, and stakeholders, and manage external events. Contribute to UN Communications Group initiatives and partner communication working groups for alignment and synergy.

Work Experience

Required: Relevant professional experience in communications, public relations, media, or journalism. Experience with collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, Google Workspace) and web-based management systems. Desirable: Proven technical experience in content production, graphic design tools, and video production. Demonstrated social media management experience. Experience developing and implementing strategic communication plans for complex programs. Stakeholder engagement experience with donors, institutional partners, and media. Experience in multicultural environments or UN organizations in developing countries.
