Job Purpose
The Communications Senior Officer is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication initiatives to support UNOPS' mission in East and Southern Africa. This role involves conducting research, drafting high-level reports, and creating compelling editorial content, including press materials, videos, and knowledge products. The officer ensures all messaging is consistent, targeted, and aligned with organizational standards. A key aspect of the role is building and maintaining relationships with media and stakeholders, providing guidance on communication best practices, and contributing to strategic planning and proposal development to enhance UNOPS' visibility and impact.
Responsibilities
The Communications Senior Officer will lead the development of high-quality editorial content, including press materials, digital media, videos, and knowledge products, ensuring brand coherence and timely delivery. This includes overseeing content capture, analysis, and packaging for strategic communication purposes. The role involves conducting research and drafting analytical reports and background papers for high-level events, preparing key messages, and providing substantive input to strategic plans. The officer will also contribute to developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, monitoring the communication landscape, and managing communication budgets. Furthermore, building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders and media partners is crucial, as is providing guidance on communication standards and supporting knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Work Experience
Required experience includes communications, public relations, media, or journalism. Proficiency in collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems is necessary. Experience in multicultural environments, UN system organizations, developing countries, or development/humanitarian contexts is desirable.
