Job Purpose
The Lead Environmental Engineer provides essential technical expertise and guidance for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of environmental cleanup activities at the OHIS Site in North Macedonia. This role ensures all actions comply with national legislation and applicable standards. Key contributions include reviewing environmental impact assessments, remediation plans, contractor submissions, and monitoring data. The incumbent will also support permitting processes and ensure the quality assurance of site-level remediation works, directly contributing to the reduction of pollution-related risks to the environment and public health.
Responsibilities
The Lead Environmental Engineer will offer technical expertise and guidance on environmental remediation, including site assessment, risk assessment, and implementation planning, ensuring strict compliance with environmental legislation and procedures. Responsibilities include reviewing environmental impact assessments, remediation plans, and contractor technical documentation for regulatory alignment. The role supports the development of project work plans, technical specifications, and Terms of Reference for remediation activities. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in supervising on-site remediation, monitoring activities, and reporting on technical implementation issues. Stakeholder engagement involves collaborating with national authorities and contractors, participating in technical groups, and preparing technical reports for stakeholders. The role also supports the development of Environmental Management Programmes and provides technical support on permitting and regulatory compliance.
Work Experience
Required experience includes environmental remediation, site assessment, and risk management. Desirable experience encompasses working on international environmental projects, particularly in hazardous waste management, navigating national environmental permitting processes, and producing quality technical reports. Experience in air pollution assessment and emissions monitoring within industrial and hazardous waste projects is also beneficial.
