Organizational Context

The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports sustainable development, climate action, and peacebuilding globally. It collaborates with governments and international institutions to deliver services like project and fund management. The Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD), hosted by UNOPS, focuses on cross-border displacement due to disasters and climate change, particularly in the Pacific region.

Job Purpose

The Pacific Region Policy Adviser will provide strategic technical guidance and facilitate the implementation of the Pacific Climate Mobility Partnerships Programme. This role is crucial for advancing regional policy frameworks like the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility (PRFCM). A key focus will be leading the technical delivery of Output 1.4, which aims to foster Climate Mobility Dialogues and peer exchange on planned relocation among Pacific Island countries, ensuring alignment with regional strategies and supporting actionable outcomes for climate-induced displacement.

Responsibilities

Represent the PDD Secretariat in the Pacific, promoting the Nansen Initiative Protection Agenda and PDD Strategy. Provide technical support to the Government of Fiji on disaster displacement issues. Facilitate the delivery of the Pacific Regional Framework on Climate Mobility (PRFCM) Implementation Plan, focusing on peer-to-peer exchange for planned relocation. Lead PDD responsibilities within the Pacific Climate Mobility Partnerships Programme, specifically activities related to Output 1.4, including establishing a peer-to-peer exchange program, developing capacity building on planned relocation, and facilitating regional dialogues. Contribute to the Pacific Resilience Partnership Technical Working Group on Human Mobility and provide technical input for global advocacy initiatives.

Work Experience

A minimum of 7 years of progressive professional experience in government, diplomacy, or international civil service is required, with substantial experience in migration, displacement, climate change, and humanitarian affairs. Experience working with Pacific countries is essential. Experience in developing diverse communications products is also required.
