Job Purpose
The Finance Specialist is responsible for efficient and accurate financial reporting, providing thoroughly researched financial information for statement preparation. This role involves analyzing financial rules, regulations, and accounting standards (IPSAS) to resolve complex financial issues and General Ledger transactions. The specialist will supervise support personnel, promote a client-oriented approach, and ensure adherence to UNOPS rules and regulations, contributing to the overall financial group efficiency and credibility.
Responsibilities
The role encompasses general corporate accounting, including reviewing and monitoring General Ledger transactions for accuracy and appropriate accounting treatment, coordinating monthly/quarterly closures, and preparing reconciliation reports. It involves providing expert advice on General Ledger accounts and accounting treatment according to IPSAS. Financial oversight includes controlling and monitoring General Ledger transactions, scrutinizing supporting documents, and collaborating on risk management. The position also supports internal and external audit coordination by preparing financial statements, audit-related reports, and monitoring follow-up actions on audit recommendations. Additionally, it involves capacity building through automation of financial processes, developing training plans, and acting as a focal point for the Financial Accounting module in the UNOPS ERP system.
Work Experience
Requires working experience in an international environment focusing on financial reporting, audit, and accounting. A strong understanding of IPSAS or IFRS is essential. Proficiency in computer skills for data presentation and reporting, and experience collaborating across teams to explain financial details and build stakeholder relationships are necessary. Experience with ERP systems and process automation is desirable.
