Organizational Context

The UNOPS Africa Regional Office oversees over 250 projects in 40 countries, focusing on fragile settings. The West Africa Multi-Country Office (WAMCO), based in Dakar, Senegal, manages projects across 16 countries, supporting peacebuilding, humanitarian aid, and sustainable development. This role is crucial for delivering UNOPS' mission and advancing SDGs in the region.

Job Purpose

The Multi-Country Office Director leads and manages all delivery and operations for the West Africa Multi-Country Office (WAMCO). This involves developing strategies, overseeing project portfolios, and ensuring timely, cost-effective services for partners and stakeholders. The role is responsible for liaison, engagement development, and representing UNOPS in the region. The Director ensures operational excellence, manages risks, and drives sustainable results aligned with UNOPS' mission and strategic objectives, contributing significantly to regional development and peacebuilding efforts.

Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for people leadership, fostering a culture of trust, diversity, and accountability, and managing the workforce. They will develop and implement the MCO strategy, oversee portfolio management, and ensure the delivery of UNOPS' strategic plan. This includes setting objectives, monitoring progress, and allocating resources effectively. The role involves building strategic alliances and advocating for business development by assessing partner needs and strengthening partnerships. Service delivery and quality assurance are key, ensuring timely and cost-effective project execution and financial sustainability. The Director will represent UNOPS in inter-agency and external forums, including the UN Country Team, and champion risk management and innovation to enhance service delivery and organizational excellence.

Work Experience

Requires significant experience in strategic and managerial leadership, business development planning, and operations within a large corporate or international organization. Experience in multicultural environments, UN system organizations, or developing countries is desirable.
