Operations Senior Assistant
Organizational Context
The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Syria, based in Damascus, coordinates humanitarian mine action and supports UN operations by ensuring safe access. UNMAS works with the Syrian Government and leads the Mine Action Area of Responsibility, contributing to the Humanitarian Response Plan by mitigating explosive ordnance risks and supporting survivors in a challenging environment.
Job Purpose
The Operations Senior Assistant will support the UNMAS Syria Response Programme by assisting in the daily management of operational activities. This includes coordinating team deployments, drafting reports for explosive ordnance assessments, and maintaining crucial data in IMSMA forms. The role involves liaising with local authorities and stakeholders, monitoring missions, and reporting on operational progress, successes, and challenges to facilitate effective humanitarian mine action and reduce the impact of explosive hazards.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Compliance and Coordination Officer or Operational Quality Management Mentor, the Operations Senior Assistant will assist in coordinating team deployments and operational activities. Key duties include drafting plans and reports for Explosive Ordnance Assessment tasks, and liaising with local authorities for operational meetings. The role involves collecting and recording information on hazardous areas in IMSMA forms, liaising with victims and communities, and completing incident/victim reports. Additionally, the assistant will help maintain operational documentation, draft daily/weekly updates for management, monitor activities, and coordinate with national and local stakeholders.
Work Experience
Relevant experience includes working in programming, monitoring, operations, or planning. Experience in mine action is considered desirable. A mandatory EOD Level 2 certification from an IMAS-compliant organization is required.
