Job Purpose
The Senior Security Assistant provides essential administrative and specialized support to ensure the effective management of safety and security operations within UNOPS Somalia. This role promotes a proactive, client-oriented approach aligned with UNOPS policies and the UN Security Management System. Key functions include facilitating timely information exchange, supporting the resolution of security-related issues, and contributing to the maintenance of a safe and secure operating environment for all personnel, assets, and ongoing operations. The position is crucial for upholding security standards and enabling the successful delivery of UNOPS projects in a challenging context.
Responsibilities
The Senior Security Assistant is responsible for supporting security operations by gathering, verifying, and updating security information to aid in risk assessments and security plan development. This includes maintaining accurate personnel and site information, disseminating security updates, and monitoring compliance with mitigation measures. The role involves documenting and reporting security incidents, representing UNOPS at security meetings, and providing administrative support for security training and briefings for new personnel. Additionally, the incumbent administers security clearance processes and coordinates with UNDSS when necessary. Operational duties include providing general administrative and logistical support, preparing documents and reports, operating emergency communication equipment, and maintaining secure files. The role also supports knowledge-building by assisting with security training and contributing to research and reporting.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in security operations, incident reporting, security administration, security communications, and warden systems. Proficiency with collaboration tools like MS Office and web-based management systems is also necessary. Experience in multicultural or UN environments in developing countries, or in development/humanitarian contexts, is desirable.
