Project Management Support - Senior Officer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is the UN's operational arm, supporting peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects globally. The Global Portfolios Office (GPO) leads multi-regional initiatives, working with diverse partners to deliver services like project management and fund management. This role supports the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through HR services, contributing to UNODC's mandate of combating illicit drugs, crime, and terrorism.
Job Purpose
The Project Management Support Senior Officer is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation, coordination, and monitoring of project activities to achieve successful results within defined scope, time, cost, and quality parameters. This role provides crucial analytical and operational support throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and execution to reporting. It actively contributes to risk and performance management, ensuring timely and clear communication with all partners and stakeholders. By focusing on client needs and employing proactive problem-solving, the Senior Officer drives efficient project delivery and the achievement of impactful results, aligning with both organizational objectives and client expectations.
Responsibilities
The role involves contributing to the development and execution of detailed project implementation plans, ensuring timely delivery of outputs within budget and to quality standards. It includes providing logistical and operational support for missions and workshops, preparing materials, and conducting field missions for monitoring. A key function is coordinating the preparation and submission of narrative and financial reports, ensuring compliance with UNOPS and donor standards. The position tracks project progress against key indicators, identifies deviations, and proposes corrective actions. It also involves conducting regular reviews of project data, maintaining monitoring tools, and ensuring quality assurance for project deliverables. Furthermore, the role focuses on building and maintaining productive relationships with national and local authorities, donors, and partners, facilitating communication, and supporting the organization of stakeholder meetings. Finally, it contributes to knowledge building and sharing through training sessions and participation in communities of practice.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in project management or related areas, along with demonstrable proficiency in using collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems. Experience working in multicultural environments or with UN system organizations in a developing country is desirable, as is experience in development or humanitarian contexts.
