Organizational Context
The UNOPS Africa Regional Office oversees over 250 projects in 40 countries, focusing on fragile settings. The West Africa Multi-Country Office (WAMCO) in Dakar manages projects across 16 countries, supporting peacebuilding, humanitarian aid, and sustainable development. This role is situated within WAMCO, contributing to strategic growth and resource mobilization.
Job Purpose
The Partnerships Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing partnership and programme development plans for the West Africa Multi-Country Office (WAMCO). This involves cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with governments, UN agencies, donors, and other stakeholders to secure resources, expand the office's project portfolio, and enhance UNOPS' reputation as a reliable partner. The role ensures that all partnership activities align with UNOPS' global and regional priorities, contribute to sustainable outcomes, and support the achievement of strategic objectives, ultimately advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Responsibilities
Develop and execute comprehensive partnership and programme development plans, analyzing the regional landscape to identify key partners and strategic opportunities. Manage risks and opportunities for sustainable growth, coordinating with global, regional, and national partnerships personnel. Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities by monitoring development trends and advising senior management on framework agreements. Contribute to project and programme formulation, negotiation, and finalization, including drafting proposals and agreements. Maintain partnership records and support portfolio diversification. Represent UNOPS in coordination forums, contribute to UN planning processes, and build a strong network of partners. Implement UNOPS standards for partnership development, foster knowledge sharing, and enhance negotiation skills within the team.
Work Experience
Requires experience in international development, focusing on partnership and programme development, project formulation, and proposal writing. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in developing countries is necessary. At least two years of team management and supervision experience is also required. Experience in development or humanitarian contexts and project/programme management is desirable.
