Project Management Support - Senior Officer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the UN, supporting partners in peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects globally. The Global Portfolios Office (GPO) leads multi-regional initiatives, and this role supports the Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC), which provides project management, fund management, and HR support services to a wide range of partners, including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Job Purpose
The Project Management Support Senior Officer is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation, coordination, and monitoring of project activities to achieve successful results within defined scope, time, cost, and quality parameters. This role provides crucial analytical and operational support for project planning, execution, and reporting, actively contributing to risk and performance management. By maintaining timely communication with partners and stakeholders and employing a proactive, problem-solving approach, the Senior Officer drives efficient project delivery and the achievement of organizational and client expectations, ultimately contributing to the successful outcomes of UNOPS projects.
Responsibilities
The role involves contributing to the development and execution of detailed project implementation plans, ensuring timely delivery of outputs within budget and quality standards, with a lead role in Niger. It includes providing operational support for missions and workshops, integrating sustainability and gender equality, and upholding Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) standards. Monitoring and reporting are key, requiring coordination of narrative and financial reports, tracking progress against indicators, identifying deviations, and proposing corrective actions. Quality assurance for deliverables and support for audits are also essential. Furthermore, the position requires building and maintaining strong relationships with national and local authorities, donors, and partners, facilitating communication, and organizing stakeholder consultations. Finally, the role supports knowledge building through training sessions and participation in communities of practice.
Work Experience
Required experience includes project development, management, and monitoring, proficiency with collaboration tools, and experience working with national stakeholders and international partners in Niger or West Africa. Experience in grant management, organizing meetings, and understanding UNODC's mandate are also necessary. Desirable experience includes working in multicultural or UN system environments in developing countries, or in development/humanitarian contexts.
