Organizational Context
The Asia Pacific Regional Office of UNOPS provides strategic leadership and oversight across 17 countries, focusing on high performance and operational excellence. The East Asia and Pacific Multi-Country Office (EAPMCO), based in Bangkok, supports operations in 24 countries, implementing initiatives in energy transition, climate change, and sustainable development. UNOPS Indonesia, established in 2005, focuses on infrastructure, fund management, and capacity building, contributing to SDGs.
Job Purpose
The Satellite Imagery Analysis Specialist will support UN Global Pulse's Data Insights for Social and Humanitarian Action (DISHA) project. The primary purpose is to ensure timely and high-quality satellite imagery analysis is shared with users and the public within days of natural disasters. This analysis supports UN response efforts, accelerating ethical data and AI solutions for social impact. The role facilitates the creation of actionable insights to enhance humanitarian work, peacebuilding, and development initiatives by providing reliable data and standardized approaches.
Responsibilities
Conduct primary analysis of satellite imagery, including visual, multispectral, and AI methods, to inform humanitarian support for disaster damage assessment and shelter mapping. Acquire and assess satellite imagery inputs and ancillary data, ensuring accuracy of analytical products. Develop internal capacities and workflows for DISHA activities. Support the testing of new data analysis and visualization tools, and contribute to collaborations on AI and crowd-sourcing validation for humanitarian contexts. Help identify new use cases for DISHA capabilities. Support the integration of DISHA's platform into UN initiatives and build relationships with relevant stakeholders. Represent DISHA in technical forums and contribute to resource mobilization efforts by preparing concept notes and donor proposals.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in Geospatial Information Technology (GIT), satellite analysis, or data management. Desired experience includes using AI-assisted tools for satellite imagery analysis, understanding space technologies for humanitarian/development affairs, and knowledge of satellite imagery/data commercial distribution and licensing systems.
