Organizational Context
The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) in Geneva supports the 2030 Agenda and SDGs by providing services to partners, including governments and UN agencies. It hosts initiatives focused on health, environment, and climate. The Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), launched in 2020, is a coalition mobilizing finance for coral reef conservation and sustainable businesses, employing a blended finance approach to support reef-positive solutions across various investment pathways.
Job Purpose
The Fund Coordination Specialist, as part of the GFCR Secretariat, provides essential coordination, operational, governance, and communications support to the Deputy Director and the UN Global Team (UNGT). This role is crucial for the effective planning and execution of governing body processes, strategic engagement, fund operations, reporting, and outreach. By ensuring systematic coordination, timely documentation, stakeholder follow-up, and clear information flow, the specialist facilitates efficient delivery across GFCR teams, governing bodies, partners, and donors. The position acts as a central coordination point, maintaining records, supporting decision-making, tracking actions, and contributing to strategic communications aligned with GFCR's mission.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include coordinating Executive Board and Steering Committee meetings, preparing agendas, managing communications, and monitoring action points. The specialist will develop and maintain management tools for budgetary needs, grant allocation, and financial/operational matters, while also supporting the Deputy Director in planning governance instances. For fund operations, this role leads the development of the GFCR Operations Manual and project templates, coordinates UN Global Team meetings, and manages the GFCR mission calendar. Programme operations involve contributing to budget assessments and guiding recipient organizations on operational processes. Additionally, the specialist supports annual work plan development, compiles fund reports, leads the maintenance of online file management tools, manages contact databases, and may draft various documentation.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in governance management, preferably in environment/climate change or performance-based grants, is required. Proven experience in managing relations with donors, boards, and grant recipients is essential. Desirable experience includes report writing, research, cross-cultural communication in international settings, strong IT skills (MS Office), and partnership development.
