ICT Specialist - Software Development (Javascript, Typescript, Python, Javascript frameworks)

Organizational Context

The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports UN strategic priorities and Sustainable Development Goals across over 130 countries. It collaborates with governments, financial institutions, and UN agencies on project management, fund management, and HR support. The Development Coordination Office (DCO) enhances UN development operations through modern software platforms, focusing on in-house evolution and expansion to meet evolving policy needs.

Job Purpose

This role is crucial for the Data and Digital team, focusing on the evolution and maintenance of DCO's software platforms. The incumbent will engage in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, prototyping, front-end and back-end coding, automated testing, and deployment. Responsibilities extend to supporting business focal points with issue resolution, reporting, and data management. The role also involves actively improving team development processes and supporting the Digital Solutions Lab's AI tools and programs. The position contributes to developing and maintaining web and software applications for global offices and headquarters, utilizing a modern tech stack and agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

The Software Developer will be involved in all aspects of system development, including UI design, web API development, and database management, adhering to standards and DevOps procedures. Key duties include designing and implementing new features based on business needs, analyzing and resolving reported issues (bugs and enhancements), and performing full-stack development using technologies like Typescript, Node.js, ReactJS, PostgreSQL, and Python. The role also involves designing and developing APIs, building data storage architectures, enhancing platform performance, scalability, and security, and integrating interactive data visualizations. Collaboration with the development team, participation in code reviews, sprint cycles, knowledge sharing, and creating technical documentation are essential. Additionally, the incumbent will provide technical support, leverage cloud platforms (Azure) and tools (Docker), and stay current with software development trends and AI practices, while assisting with DevOps tasks.

Work Experience

Required experience includes database-driven web application development and maintenance, object-oriented JavaScript (Typescript, Node.js, ReactJS), and software testing frameworks. Experience with AI-Driven apps or complex Agentic workflows is also required. Desired experience includes SQL databases, Git workflow, web API development, Linux environments, DevOps (Docker, Kubernetes), Azure, and AI-assisted development.
