ICT Specialist - Software Development (Full Stack Developer - Node, Typescript, Express, React)

Organizational Context

The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports UN development reform by providing modern software platforms for efficient development operations. This role supports the Development Coordination Office (DCO) in enhancing and evolving these platforms, specifically the UN INFO system, to improve data harmonization and demonstrate the UN's contribution to Agenda 2030. The position is home-based and part of the GPO/NYPO.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the ICT Senior Manager, this Full Stack Developer role is crucial for enhancing and maintaining UNOPS' software platforms supporting the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO). The incumbent will collaborate with remote and headquarters-based teams, focusing on web applications using Typescript, Javascript, Express, Postgres, and React JS. Key responsibilities include developing new features, ensuring code quality through automated testing, and assisting with the maintenance and support of DCO's digital systems. This position is integral to improving development coordination, data management, and transparency within the UN system, contributing directly to the UN INFO platform and its alignment with UN development reform mandates.

Responsibilities

As a Full Stack Web Developer, the incumbent will be involved in all aspects of system development, including UI design, web API development, and database management, adhering to agreed standards and DevOps procedures. Key functions include designing and implementing new features and modules to meet business needs, analyzing and resolving reported issues, and contributing across the full technology stack with a focus on Typescript, Node.js, ReactJS, and PostgreSQL. The role also involves developing and integrating public and private APIs for the UNINFO suite, enhancing platform performance, scalability, and security, and creating interactive data visualizations. Collaboration within the development team, including code reviews and sprint cycles, is essential, as is maintaining technical documentation and providing technical support. Additionally, the incumbent will leverage cloud platforms like Azure and tools such as Docker, and assist with DevOps tasks for application infrastructure.

Work Experience

Required experience includes database-driven web application development and maintenance, proficiency with object-oriented JavaScript libraries (Typescript, Node.js, ReactJS), .NET or similar frameworks, and SQL-based databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL). Experience in software testing is also required. Desired experience includes Git workflow, web API development, DevOps (Docker, Kubernetes), Azure cloud services, and agile methodologies.
