Job Purpose
The Associate Construction Management Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the successful execution of UN-Habitat Jordan's urban development projects. This position is responsible for assisting in the procurement, planning, and meticulous supervision of construction works, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, quality standards, project timelines, and safety regulations. The role involves detailed review of technical documentation, including landscaping designs and material submittals, to guarantee compliance. Furthermore, the incumbent provides essential on-site technical oversight, manages contractors, coordinates with diverse stakeholders, and ensures comprehensive reporting and documentation align with UNOPS and donor requirements, ultimately contributing to the delivery of high-quality, sustainable, and resilient public spaces.
Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance and construction oversight by contributing to project work plans, drawings, and specifications during design and procurement. Monitor and supervise on-site construction activities to ensure compliance with design standards, technical specifications, and contractual obligations. Conduct quality inspections, verify material compliance, and monitor safety and environmental standards according to UNOPS HSSE requirements. Support the resolution of technical and operational issues in coordination with contractors and the project manager. Verify contractor progress, prepare and review Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs), and ensure accurate documentation for disbursement. Review variation orders and cost claims for technical accuracy and value for money. Support timely delivery of site progress reports, updates, and documentation of construction milestones. Maintain regular coordination with end-users, contractors, consultants, and local authorities for smooth project implementation. Organize and participate in project meetings, prepare minutes, and track action items. Assist in maintaining good relationships with project neighbours and communities. Monitor progress and report deviations against approved schedules. Work with contractors on inspection and testing plans. Inspect and report on works in progress, ensuring adherence to quality benchmarks. Prepare technical and progress reports highlighting achievements, delays, risks, and financial updates. Conduct site visits and prepare inspection reports. Support project administration, procurement, and logistics, including contact and asset management, payment tracking, and documentation. Maintain accurate project records and identify administrative bottlenecks. Support knowledge building and sharing initiatives related to project and construction management.
Work Experience
Required experience includes urban space and landscaping implementation/construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management. Experience in hydroponics and aquaponics, community garden implementation, and quality control/monitoring within construction projects is also necessary. Proficiency in collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems is required. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in a developing country is desirable.
