Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN) in Dakar, Senegal, operates under UNOPS. UNODC aims to combat illicit drugs, crime, and terrorism globally. This role supports UNODC's mandate by providing essential security operations support within the West and Central Africa region.
Job Purpose
The Security Associate is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and specialized support to ensure the effective management of safety and security operations within the UNODC Regional Office for West and Central Africa. This role is crucial in promoting a client-oriented approach aligned with UNODC policies and the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) standards. By facilitating timely information exchange, supporting the resolution of security issues, and ensuring compliance with security standards for personnel, premises, and field activities, the incumbent contributes significantly to maintaining a safe and secure operating environment across the region.
Responsibilities
The Security Associate's duties encompass supporting security operations by gathering and verifying security information for analysis, risk assessments, and security plan development. They will participate in creating and reviewing security documents like SRM, RSM, and SOPs in collaboration with UNDSS and field offices. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate personnel and site information, representing UNODC ROSEN at security meetings, and liaising with national authorities. The role involves disseminating security updates, monitoring compliance with security measures across 22 countries, documenting incidents, and providing administrative support for security training. Additionally, the associate will conduct security briefings, manage security clearances, and facilitate emergency communications, while also providing general administrative and logistical support for the office's security functions.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in security operations, such as incident reporting, security administration, communications, and warden systems, along with knowledge of UNSMS and UN security standards. Proficiency in collaboration tools like MS Office is also necessary. Desired experience includes working with UNDSS, serving as a security focal point, or having experience in multicultural or developing country environments.
