Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the UN, supporting peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects globally. The Global Portfolios Office (GPO) leads multi-regional initiatives, and this role supports the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through the Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC). The position is based in Bamako, Mali.
Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and timely transportation of authorized personnel and, when necessary, cargo or hazardous goods. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of UNODC's activities in Bamako, facilitating the movement of staff and essential items. The incumbent must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and discretion, effectively interacting with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while adhering strictly to driving rules and regulations. The position contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of project implementation by providing essential logistical support.
Responsibilities
Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for authorized personnel and cargo. Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as required. Meet and assist personnel at the airport, including facilitating immigration and customs. Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs and contribute to maintenance plans. Perform routine vehicle checks, ensure roadworthiness, and carry out minor repairs. Keep vehicles clean and ensure all necessary documents and supplies are available and secure. Respond to accidents according to organizational regulations. Assist with administrative tasks such as procurement processes, quotations, and inventory management of office supplies. Support facility management by arranging minor repairs and liaising with service providers. Monitor office equipment maintenance and respond to repair requests.
Work Experience
Requires relevant experience in safe driving, defensive driving, and minor vehicle repair. A strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations is essential. A driver's training certificate and a valid driver's license are mandatory. Experience in multicultural environments or with UN system organizations in a developing country is desirable.
