Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the UN, providing project management, procurement, and infrastructure services globally. The Myanmar Country Office (MMCO), established in 1996, is a key partner in the country’s humanitarian and development efforts, managing significant funds and projects, particularly in health, livelihoods, and rural development. The Director & Representative leads all MMCO operations, representing UNOPS in Myanmar.
Job Purpose
The Country Office (CO) Director is responsible for directing and managing all delivery and operations within the CO's scope, reporting to the Regional Director. This includes leading liaison and engagement development activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective service delivery that contributes to sustainable results for partners and stakeholders. The role involves representing UNOPS in the country on behalf of the Regional Director, overseeing the development and management of the UNOPS portfolio of engagements, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational excellence. The Director plays a crucial role in strengthening partnerships and maximizing UNOPS' impact within Myanmar.
Responsibilities
The Director, Country Office, is accountable for people leadership, fostering a culture of trust, diversity, and accountability, and managing the workforce. They will develop and implement the Country Office strategy, oversee portfolio management, manage operational risks, and ensure the delivery of the UNOPS strategic plan. This includes setting objectives, monitoring progress, and allocating resources effectively. The role involves building strategic alliances, networking, and advocating for business development opportunities. Service delivery and quality assurance are critical, ensuring timely and cost-effective project execution according to partner expectations and UNOPS standards. The Director will represent UNOPS in inter-agency and external forums, including the UN Country Team, and contribute to UN coherence. Risk management and knowledge management, including driving innovation and sharing best practices, are also key responsibilities.
Work Experience
Requires strategic and managerial leadership experience in public affairs, management, business development planning, and operations within a large corporate or international organization. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in a developing country, and in development or humanitarian contexts, is desirable.
